Summary

The European Heart project addresses the rise of right-wing populism and the erosion of common European values by fostering a deeper understanding of European democratic principles. The project focuses on developing emotional and personal connections to the values of the European Union (EU) through a more empathetic and reflective approach. It aims to counter emotionalized propaganda and extremism by fostering critical thinking, empathy, and active democratic participation.

The project targets students aged 13–17 and includes the creation of toolkits and learning materials based on human needs theory and nonviolent communication. The project encourages students to reflect on their basic needs, understand the motives of others, and develop adaptive strategies for conflict resolution. A variety of activities such as historical case studies, role-playing games, and interactive online platforms aim to promote social, cultural, and democratic engagement in classrooms. Through the development of short films, board games, and educational modules, the project seeks to reduce susceptibility to manipulation, encourage civic participation, and foster a deeper connection to European values.
